Giants select Antonio Brown WR-TB This pick should be invalid. The pick is after the 24 hours were up and still didnt have the cap space to pick him. The timer ran out around 11am and the trade didnt get posted for a few hours later so the cap space didnt exist for that pick to be made

Another issue here is that the Giants still have one remaining FA pick and three rookie draft picks with no cap space left
I agree on giving him a free pass on this one , but really an owner should be aware of his cap space even if he is not sure of the drop rule He needs to come up with a plan quickly to address his cap situation before he up for anymore picks

I’ll address NE post first - the trade opened up $10 in cap so picking Brown at $3 still leaves him with $7 in open cap for this draft. Once this draft is over Off Season Drops will reopen and teams will be able to free up cap space again. Then we will have the Rookie Draft and teams don’t need to have space or money for those players until the end of training camp.
As for Tampa Bay’s statement that the pick should be forfeit because the trade was posted after the pick’s time ended - In a normal offseason I would likely agree with you. But while we are trying to pull this draft together from the depths of “Is this the end of DFL?” land I believe if we just consider the pick “missed” (therefore able to make up the selection) instead of “forfeit” the draft can progress and we can focus on bigger issues like - Who can we get to fill our 4 ownerless teams? Who wants to take over as Commish and do all the work (such as announcing reminders about rules on cap, roster space, and drops) that entails? Can we get the rookie draft in before training camp starts? Who is going to make the schedule this year? Etc etc.
All that to say is… I believe we have bigger fish to fry than arguing the difference between a missed pick and a forfeit pick in the middle of the 2nd Round of the FA draft.

Just wanted to bring the cap issue to the Giants Attention for future moves. It was obvious that he was not looking at his situation , and now he is aware of it he needs to manage it
Agree with the steps that you took to handle the situation and we need to move on

But were also not talking about a new owner here not knowing what to do. Giants have been in this league almost the entire time, its not his first or second offseason. He knows full well how this should go in the offseason.
Its not that hard to look at your roster before the draft and see how short you are in either category going in to see you need to free up space

I think we are focusing on the wrong thing here, by trying to get the Giants pick nullified. It took 2+ days to even get a pick in this draft because the first 2 teams in the order don't even have an owner.
Yes, a date was set for the draft, but as far as I can tell until Chicago posted that Indy was on the clock there wasn't much heads up given that the draft was actually starting on that date.
Like I mentioned, 2 days passed before we even had a pick made here, so it left Chicago scrambling to get someone to draft for those teams that don't have owners.
Yes teams should have had cap and roster space before the draft, but with how non-existent updates have been this off-season it is VERY easy to see how some teams, even those who have been around, didn't do so. We have much bigger fish to fry than getting into an argument over this Giants pick. The league was days from collapsing, so how about we get our house in order this off-season and once we have a committed commish and things are stable then we can be nit-picky about this stuff again.
