Giants Get: 2012 1st(MIN) Brian Urlacher - $4
Cardinals Get: Ben Roethlisberger - $5
It's tough to let go of the #5 overall pick considering I gave up a lot for it, but I need a QB.

The #5 pick is MIN...not NYJ...
Will accept when pick is corrected

Veto.
Most of you know I very rarely use the veto vote. I typically try to keep my options out of the votes. This veto has nothing to do with my opinion of the merits of the trade. This veto is based purely on the QB rule we have in place. The rule is to ensure all teams have a starting QB. Any trade involving a starting QB must be scrutinized more because of this. There are no starting QBs in FA and the 5th pick is highly unlikely to garner one of the 2 QBs who may start next year

Veto.
Just as Mike said, the combination of the QB rule we instituted & where the pick sits in the rookie draft, doesn't stand to realistically leave the Giants with a QB starting/productive qb.

I do not believe this trade should be vetoed for two reasons:
1. There have been worse trades involving the QB rule. Chad Henne (a starting QB at the time) was traded for two seconds just a year ago. Alex Smith (a starting QB) was traded for Marc Bulger and a 2nd around then as well. Those trades were approved, and there was no way the team receiving the picks would find a QB there.
2. This notion that we know there won't be a productive/starting QB around #5 overall is false. Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Cam Newton, and Andy Dalton were all taken at or later than #5 overall last year. The team with the #1 overall pick this year (Ravens) doesn't need a QB. The team with the #2 overall pick this year (Bills) has invested in Christian Ponder as a starter, so can't draft a QB due to the rule. The team with the #3 overall pick this year (Texans) has Matt Hasselbeck, but we can even assume that he'll draft a QB. The team with the #4 overall pick this year (Raiders assuming that trade goes through) has Matt Cassel and can't draft a starting QB without breaking the rule. That means either RGIII or Andrew Luck could easily be available around #5 overall. Unless you guys know something that I don't know, I don't see any reason why this trade violates the league rules.

1) Henne & Smith, neither guy is a perennial top 10 level FANTASY qb like big ben is, fact not opinion. Henne has never kept a full season gig & even with finally starting all year this year, Smith was only #14 qb in our lg this year (his best of career)
2) We can't predict if another owner between now and rookie draft trade a pick again either. And just cause they have a qb, doesn't mean they won't take a younger option since 1* rookies aren't on rosters til AFTER cutdown 2* they could trade one of them of the pick to a team who needs a qb Also last year of the rookies, Newton (#3), Dalton (#15), Ponder (#26) & Locker (#32), only Newton had high productivity of the rookies. Dalton by NFL standards excelled as a rookie but was middle of pack in here, ponder struggled enough to get benched for McNabb AND Webb, locker couldn't pass captain fragile hasselbeck & has his team looking at a qb off 4 neck surgeries to start ahead of him now.

I think you misinterpreted my point. I'm not arguing about value, but rather the idea that this trade violates the QB rule.

Could we try to decide this relatively soon? I just want to make sure I know what's going on with my team with the FA draft coming up.

2 votes to 1 in veto. Trade denied
