Panthers can you post your reasons for accepting this trade?

I actually sought out the trade I have $9 worth of cap space in which to continue to rebuild my team. Specifically defense. Peyton is in the later stages of his career and a large cap hit. I want to get something for him but more than anything need to clear the room of his contract. I will b drafting a QB likely with one of my first two rookie selections. Dallas stated he had a need and an agreement was reached. I get Kyle at tight end who is young and hopefully may sign an extention before hitting the market after next year. I am gambling on that happening. I also get extra picks which I always covet. Can I get more for Peyton, yes I'm sure, but this fits my needs and plan for what I'm going to do this off season.

Kyle Rudolph - 34th best TE last year
Greg Olsen - 8th best TE last year
It should probably cost the 1st Round Pick just to upgrade from Rudolph to Olsen. But even if it is the 3rd to upgrade. Peyton Manning is worth a late 1st Round Rookie Pick? I'm not a TRC member but I needed to post because I dont see the value at all. Admins feel free to move this to general discussion but it needed to be said.

Well obviously I'm not a totally disinterested party and I wasn't privy to other peoples trade discussions but I can say there's a consensus in this league that Randolph is poised to break out since I had medium to serious talks with 4 other owners about deals with Randolph being the focus of such a deal.

Whatever the thoughts about Rudolph maybe across the league as far as his "potential" value lies, his current value isn't on Olsen's so if add the 3rd for the balance makes sense. However, saying Peyton is worth just a rookie 1st isn't sensible, particularly in a draft where you don't know how high/low that pick is, but since it's the team you're trading manning too doesn't help that cause. And it's different if you were getting a 1st this year & know where the pick lies & the depth at QB in this draft
As an example, I took this as a near equal:
After 2011, Drew Brees was #2 QB (24 ppg, vs Peyton's 26 this year) let's say Mike (TEN) who owned him then (still does) decided to rebuild & get younger and did this trade:
Drew Brees For '13 1st rd pick (PIT)
So Brees gets traded for a #20 pick in a draft the following year. (Note: no QB was taken in 1st rd last yr in DFL) Say he took EJ Manuel at 20 (went 34)....does that seem like logical move? IMO it doesn't make sense & if it involved a known pick placement & known class at said position could (possibly) be a more feasible trade

I have to agree with Chief, but I am not sure if I should vote because I was involved in trade talks for Rudolph and and DAL's 1st.

Just looking to confirm something. No one is talking collusion right? You guys are just saying that Carolina's valuation of what he received doesn't match up with what either of you believes would be fair so he shouldn't be allowed to make a deal he proposed?

I can't speak for Chief, but that's what I'd be saying.

What happens if manning wins the super bowl and decides to go out on top.. then dallas is getting nothing. . And Carolina has already stated that he plans on taking a qb in this Draft in which hr had several firsts including at least one top 5 if I am not mistaken.. so he isn't using the pick he is receiving for a qb so the example chief gave doesn't necessarily make too much sense. Do I think Carolina is getting top dollar for manning probably not but if it is good enough for him then thats on him and in my opinion if we are picking this trade apart how is some of the trades the new jags owner making not getting any attention I feel they are more questionable then this one.. just my 2 centssince Houston threw his out there

I think Manning is worth a lot more than this even with the slight chance that he retires. He was by far the #1 QB this year, and even if he plays one more year this trade will be very very lopsided in favor of DAL.

I'm the one with salary concerns so it makes getting top value for him difficult. I want this trade to put myself in a position to improve my team for beyond just next season. If Dallas wants to adjust his offer for the trade to go through we can do that. I don't require it. I just want it to be seen that with picks I currently own that I intend on keeping I can't take two or three players with a cumulative salary close to peytons. I don't think any team that has a need for a QB will give up the majority of next year's picks to do so. Hence the reason I will get less value n b ok with it. I have a plan. Lol
