DFL Rankings (Week 2)
1) Ravens (1-0)
Previous Week (1)
– The reigning 2 time champs took care of business last week, having a solid game from both his offense and defense. Injury watch with top defender Kuechly out with a concussion, but still has good depth to recover. Will get a nice test from Patriots this week. Question, when was the last time the Ravens lost a game in the DFL? Ravens was the top scoring team last week, what else can’t this team do!!
Prediction this week: Ravens over Patriots
2) Broncos (1-0)
Previous Week (2)
– First I need to apologize to Broncos for disrespecting their defense last week. They really showed up to take care of business against a Steelers team. Broncos only need to wait one more week till top RB Bell comes back, and watch out when that happens. With his offense and defense it will be tough to beat his powerhouse team.
Prediction this week: Broncos over Falcons
3) Packers (1-0)
Previous Week (4)
– Packers came through with the 2nd best score last week behind division rival Ravens. When those two teams match up since they are division rivals will be some of the best games of the year!! Packers moves up a spot with their week 1 performance. This weeks they matchup with the Redskins and should make out to be a very fun one to follow!! Although with the top 3 teams see it hard to beat any of them.
Prediction this week: Packers over Redskins (Game of the Week)
4) Redskins (1-0)
Previous Week (3)
– Thankfully Redskins defense and Julio Jones carried the team, because everyone else forgot that the season started last week. This week however the Redskins have a tough matchup against the Packers. Of course since being the writer of this column and owner of the Redskins I can’t play favorites to my squad, but truly find it hard to be able to take down a very talented Packers team.
Prediction this week: Packers over Redskins (Game of the Week)
5) Lions (1-0)
Previous Week (6)
–Welcome to the top 5 Lions. What a performance by Philip Rivers!! The Lions took advantage of the division rival Vikings easily, will be interesting to see when that division game happens again to see where each team is record wise. This week the Lions matchup with the Chiefs, and with the development of the Chiefs should be able to take care of business this week.
Prediction this week: Lions over Chiefs
6) Texans (6-0)
Previous Week (8)
– The Texans move up 2 spots with a great performance against the division rival Raiders. The trio of Megatron, Landry and Murray will be very hard for teams to beat. As well as his deep DB’s he has on his squad. This week the Texans matchup with the Colts, it will take his big trio to put up some goose eggs for the Colts to pull off the upset.
Prediction this week: Texans over Colts
7) Giants (0-1)
Previous Week (7)
– Last week the Giants had a tough loss to the Patriots. This week he will look to rebound against the Jaguars. Should be a good matchup, look for Bridgewater to have a nice bounce back game. This game will come down to the wire, but in the end I see Giants squeaking out the win.
Prediction this week: Giants over Jaguars
8) Bengals (1-0)
Previous Week (11)
– Last week the Bengals took it to the Cowboys, and showed me he has a legit team to be deserving in the top 10. Look for Edelman to possibly lead the league in receptions this year, he will be Brady’s favorite target. This week the Bengals are up against a banged up Panthers team, should take them down to begin the season 2-0
Prediction this week: Bengals over Panthers
9) Patriots (1-0)
Previous Week (12)
– A year removed from being undefeated in the regular season last year the Patriots find themselves in back in the top 10. But next up is the POWERFUL Ravens team. It will take a big game from the Pats players especially Brady and Gronk to pull off this upset. In the end I feel they will fall just a little bit short, but definitely one of the better games to follow this week.
Prediction this week: Ravens over Patriots
10) Raiders (0-1)
Previous Week (9)
- Looks like we have a new workhorse running back in the league and his name is Carlos Hyde!! What a game, although it wasn’t enough for the Raiders to get past the Texans last week, he must be happy about his team’s outlook with a solid running game to have. Look for Tahnnehill to get back on track and the Raiders to handle the Jets pretty comfortably.
Prediction this week: Raiders over Jets
11) Vikings (0-1)
Previous Week (10)
– Last week the Vikings had a tough matchup with the Lions, it also didn’t help that Andrew Luck had one of his worst games as a pro. Look for that to change this week, and Luck and the offense get back on track. Also Mike Evans sounds like he should be healthy this week which should boost the Vikings offense. Look for the Titans to give the Vikings a fight, but in the end the Vikings should come out on top.
Prediction this week: Vikings over Titans
12) Jaguars (0-1)
Previous Week (18)
– I like what the Jaguars have done upgrading their QB in Alex Smith that should help him out. However, he faces a Giants team that is hungry for a win. If Mike Wallace can put up Antonio Brown type numbers we could be in for an upset. I see the Jaguars defense bringing it this week which should make this game very close. I have the slight edge to the Giants but should be a good one to watch.
Prediction this week: Giants over Jaguars
13) Buccaneers (1-0)
Previous Week (15)
– The Buccaneers are looking to have more wins than they had last year. Up next are the Steelers. With the recent addition of Nick Foles I see the Buccaneers going to 2-0. In a division that will come down to the wire. Did you see last week’s game? The Buccaneers only won by .68 points, talk about close!! The Bucs have a tough decision at WR in 3 solid guys Stevie Johnson, Tyler Lockett, and Kendall Wright all showed promise as a great trio on a young Bucs team.
Prediction this week: Buccaneers over Steelers
14) Cardinals (1-0)
Previous Week (17)
– The Cardinals proved me wrong in a big way last week taking it to a Panthers team. Led by the tandem of McCoy and Ivory they are looking for keeping the momentum going against a very banged up Cowboys team. With Dez and Jordy both out this week, look for the Cardinals to take advantage. The weakness that could be bad for the Cardinals is their WR depth. Don’t think it will hurt them this week, but look for them to address the issue soon to stay in contention.
Prediction this week: Cardinals over Cowboys
15) Saints (0-1)
Previous Week (16)
- The Saints team are coming off a strong showing against a powerful Redskins team, they almost pulled off the upset if it weren’t for Julio Jones going off. This week they are matched up against an Eagles team that gave all it could against the Ravens. This matchup will be a fun one to watch as we have the two rookie QB’s going against each other Winston and Mariota. I see this one coming down the wire and Saints barely holding on for the win.
Prediction this week: Saints over the Eagles
16) Falcons (0-1)
Previous Week (14)
– Guess we will not be entertained by Jake (Bucs) eating any poopy pancakes. That was a good game to follow. The Falcons will look to get back on track, but what stands in their way is a tough Broncos team. Look for the Falcons to prove everyone wrong this week and try to pull off the upset. I have to stick to my observations though and go with the favorite in this one.
Prediction this week: Broncos over Falcons
17) Cowboys (0-1)
Previous Week (5)
- After a big announcement from the Commish on the Cowboys owner/GM it is sad to say they will probably be missing the playoffs this year after having one of the best offenses last year. Look for the new owner next year to take advantage of the great talent and surround them with other key pieces and depth. But at this moment with the injuries to Dez and Jordy and a Peyton Manning that is showing his age, I find it hard for the Cowboys to pull off a win against a Cardinals team that is looking very strong.
Prediction this week: Cardinals over Cowboys
18) Titans (1-0)
Previous Week (20)
– The Titans are coming off a nice solid win against a Chiefs team. However this week they are matched up with a Vikings team that will be looking for a turn around. The weakness of the Titans still lies with their RB positon. Brees should have a good game but don’t think it will be enough to pull off the upset.
Prediction this week: Vikings over Titans
19) Steelers (0-1)
Previous Week (19)
– Last week the Steelers were up against a dominant Broncos squad. This week should make for a great matchup against the Buccaneers. The offenses look pretty even on paper. However if the Steelers defense can score more than the Bucs defense we could be in line for an upset. Should be an entertaining game to follow. Anderson, Smith, Collins and Barr if they can have games like last week I call upset. But I’ll stick with my original prediction of Bucs
Prediction this week: Buccaneers over Steelers
20) Eagles (0-1)
Previous Week (21)
– This game I feel will be on par with the Buccaneers/Steelers game and could come down the wire. Mariota sure looked great last week, let’s see if he can carry that over to this week. To pull off the upset, I feel if Terrance Williams can show us a Dez Bryant type of day with Bryant out, that should be enough to pull off the upset. But that is a BIG IF. All in all should be another great game to follow.
Prediction this week: Saints over Eagles
21) Chiefs (0-1)
Previous Week (22)
– Last week I had the Chiefs pegged for the upset on the Titans, but with how relying the Chiefs are on CJ Anderson and Charles Johnson and their performances last week didn’t help. As my writing is always done on Saturday afternoon, and CJ Anderson has already played, doesn’t bode well this week either, plus they are matched up against a more solid team the Lions. Look for the Chiefs however to keep an eye on the waivers for any players that can make an immediate impact for the rest of the year.
Prediction this week: Lions over Chiefs
22) Panthers (0-1)
Previous Week (13)
– Oh how the mighty have fallen, with DeSean Jackson out for a few weeks it puts the Panthers in a tough situation. Also AP didn’t look like his usual self either. Looks like he might need a few more weeks to wear off that rust. This week they are matched up with a Bengals team that has shown they are tough to bully around. However, if AP can get back to form this week and Sproles have the type of game he had last week we could be in line for a huge upset. But at this time I’m taking the favorite.
Prediction this week: Bengals over Panthers
23) Colts (1-0)
Previous Week (23)
– This game was actually fun to follow last week, both the Colts and Jets were neck and neck until the very end – with Hodges getting a few more tackles to get the win to the Colts. This week however the game script is a little different with the Texans coming to town. It will take a team USA Hockey Miracle but nothing is impossible. If McCoy gets hurt in the game and Karlos Williams comes in and goes off there could be your upset.
Prediction this week: Texans over Colts
24) Jets (0-1)
Previous Week (24)
– The Jets offense actually looks really good on paper. However, we may need a few more weeks until Big Ben has a few more of his weapons back for him to put up solid numbers. I will say this much, his youth of Aaron Donald and Kahlil Mack, if he can keep ahold of those two and surround them with other solid contributors through the waivers then he could shoot up the rankings. I can’t stress this enough, with teams in the 20’s the waivers can be your best friend. If guys aren’t producing cut ties and pick that next man up that is putting up good numbers. Look for the Raiders to take it to the Jets this week.
Prediction this week: Raiders over Jets
