DFL Pre-Season Power Rankings:
Asked Travis, last week, if he was doing this again, he told me he didn't have the time so I told him I could do it. It would have been a little more in depth had I had a little more time to write and REALLY look over guys rosters, but I think this will be a fun read for you guys right before the season. Also if you feel like you got ranked low, simplest thing to do to prove me wrong is go out and win LOL. Good Luck to everyone this year, except when playing me and have some fun with the 11th season of the DFL
1. Redskins: Defending champs looking to defend his title, and to do that he made moves for Barkley, Cooper and Kelce. Will Barkley be able to replace Gurley? Will the addition of Kelce make him even more the favorite in the league? His defense should help out as it looks to be one of the top defenses in the league.
2. Bengals: Bengals are coming off another season where they lost in the DFL Super Bowl. It was his 4th time coming in second. This year he is looking to break the trend and win the league finally. He will need Goff, Howard, and Njoku to continue to progress, McCoy to play all year, Green to have a top WR year, and his defense to be a top tier defense.
3. Patriots: Finished the year undefeated last year, but fell short in the playoffs losing to a hot Chiefs. Didn't make many moves over the offseason, but with an offense of Brady, Kamara, Marvin Jones, Hogan, and Gronk allows him to focus on other areas. He also has a strong defense which is a theme for most of the top teams in the DFL
4. Rams: Finished last year tied for third after losing the electric Watson and two 10 point LBs. The key to the Rams success this season is obviously AB being AB, but also keeping Watson healthy all year and Hyde hopefully taking the biggest share of the Browns carries. He does not have quite the big names on defense like the top guys, but has one of the better defenses with solid players there.
5. Chiefs: Came up just short last year of making the DFL Super Bowl, by losing to the eventual champs Redskins in the NFC championship. The chiefs added Bell in the offseason to give them one of the most potent offenses in DFL, a long with a good defense, the Chiefs should have a strong chance to make it back to the NFC Championship game this year
6. Vikings: Come into this season as a sneaky pick to make the SB with Luck hopefully being fully healthy, and offensive weapons of Dalvin Cook, OBJ, and Doyle. He has some young talent on defense that could step up and give him a top 3/4 defense in the league.
7. Saints: Saints probably have the weakest QB of the teams in the top 10, but with Melvin Gordon, Hilton, Demaryius Thomas, Ertz, and rookie Hurst on offense that might be enough to cover for Dalton. The defense has a very solid core which should back the offense up and give the Saints a good shot at finishing high this season.
8. Broncos: Once a back to back champ, the Broncos are coming off a disappointing season by his standards losing to the Bengals in the 2nd round of the playoffs. As always he has a lot of depth on offense with 5 RBs and 7 WRs. That leaves his team a little short on defensive depth but with LBs like Kuechly and Brown, and DL Dunlap he still has a good enough defense to compete with Cincy for their division
9. Seahawks: The champion from 2 seasons ago, had to face the reigning champs in the playoffs and it cut their season short as they were not able to win back to back titles. With McKinnon going down with an ACL injury he will need Cohen or another RB to step up to stay a top ten team this season, as his defense is good, but needs another DL guy to have a solid defense
10. Giants: Had a solid season, but ran into a hot Rams team week 2 of the playoffs and was not able to make the AFC championship game. He kept most of the team intact except for trading for Diggs and Henry which should help his offensive depth, but currently not having a QB to start while Winston is suspended could hurt his season and get him off to a slow start.
11. Packers: Packers are coming off a season where they finished 22nd in the league, but with Rodgers healthy, he has an offense that includes Kenyan Drake, Keenan Allen, Jimmy Graham, and rookies D.J Moore and James Washington. His defense has solid depth and should support offense enough to put the Packers in the playoff picture this season.
12. Buccaneers: Tampa Bay is an interesting case, he has guys that can be good or the situation they are in could hurt their value. Currently his team looks good and he should fight for a playoff spot with an offense of Bortles, Mixon, Cobb, Watkins, Cook, Stills, Westbrook, and Nick Chubb. The defense will lean on some solid LBs, a couple expensive but good DL, and possibly a new QB during the season if Lamar Jackson takes the job from Flacco.
13. Colts: The Colts rebounded last year finishing 7-5 after ending the season before in last place. This year he looks to take it a step further and fight the Rams and the Buccaneers for the division and make the playoffs. His team will be led by Stafford, Ajayi, Thielen, Kendricks, Kirksey, and Harrison Smith, and will hope John Ross can show his top ten pick potential along with one of his TEs having a strong season.
14. Falcons: Has a solid team this year built on a lot of aging veterans, but they should all do well this year and give the Falcons a shot at the playoffs, losing Lee for the season hurts, but he has some guys that should be able to chip in to cover on offense, but will need to pick up depth on defense to make sure his team has a chance to win every week.
15. Bears: Lost a top 4/5 RB last year before the season got going and never recovered. Starting the year with Wentz not playing the first week or few, it could set him off on the wrong foot, but if not he has a strong offense with Wentz, David Johnson, Landry, Davante Adams, and Brate, he will also look for Eifert to stay healthy and Michel to have a big role with NE. His defense is led by Bobby Wagner and Trevathan, but needs work on DL to keep up with the top defenses of the league, but he has a solid chance to fight for his division.
16. Titans: Looks to be leaning heavily on the Saints offense this season with Brees, Michael Thomas, Ben Watson, and Ted Ginn starting for him, he has some depth with Edelman and Dixon(if he can get touches in Baltimore). His defense looks to have some solid starters, but not much depth past the starters, so if he can find some depth on both sides of the ball, he could fight for a playoff spot.
17. Panthers: Start the season a WR and a couple solid defenders short of having a team capable of making the playoffs, but will hope Matt Ryan, Royce Freeman, James White, Robert Woods, Kyle Rudolph, Mason Foster, Denzel Perryman all have strong seasons and can cover the holes his team currently has.
18. Steelers: Look to be headed for a tough season, as Carr's production with a new head coach is still in question, Desean Jackson's production going down, Perine being his best RB and Austin Hooper being his best TE. His defense also has holes that will make it hard to put up big numbers up on that side of the ball.
19. Lions: The Lions are very thin on offense right now they have two Lion RBs starting in a loaded backfield there, Sterling Shephard is his best WR with little help at all behind him. He has depth on defense and solid starters there including Chandler Jones who has DL eligibility, along with Sean Lee and Jordan Hicks at LB, but a solid defense with a weak offense will make it extremely hard to be competitive.
20. Cardinals: Did not have a good season last year finishing 3-9. This year he has talent at DL, LB and a few DBs that can put points up, but his offense is hoping Carson or Burkhead can claim the lion share of touches at RB for their team, and also that JuJu can improve on his impressive rookie numbers. Jimmy G will be the key to their success or failure this season as it is still to be determined if he can continue his numbers from the 5 games he played in SF last year.
21. Eagles: Like Arizona, Philly finished last year 3-9. Coming into this season he has a completely new offense with the only returning player being Pumphrey. The offense is banking on Duke Johnson and Blount claiming the starting RB job for their teams, Golloday and Amendola putting up good numbers, and Alex Smith to be as good in Washington as he was in KC. He has a couple DBs that are good and a solid LB, but not much else.
22. Browns (49ers): Parlayed his top rookie pick this past offseason into arguably the top dynasty RB in Gurley, acquired a good young TE in Engram and Pat Mahomes, so his new look offense has the potential to be a top tier one, if Maquise Goodwin, Josh Gordon, and Allen Hurns play well along with the others mentioned. The defense lacks depth behind the starters, and starts with Earl Thomas on a holdout, Berry and Vernon both questionable.
23. Cowboys: Dallas has a solid starting offensive core with Cousins, Zeke, Olsen, Benjamin and Will Fuller, but lacks a little depth. The defense on the other hand is pretty barren, TJ Watt and Chung are his best players and both might not crack 100 points on the season, and with the lack of top end talent the lack of depth does not help either
24. Jets: Currently have two young QBs on the roster with Darnold and Trubisky, he will hope one of them breaks out and he can use the other to strengthen his squad as he is very thin at TE and WR. He can also build around Kareem Hunt. A long with a thin offense his defense is as thin which will make this season about building his team for future
