DFL POWER RANKINGS: Week 3 is here, the #1 team avoided losing for the 2nd straight week with the Bucs winning a super tight matchup, we had 3 matchups decided by less than 1.5 points! It has been a crazy first 2 weeks, so it will be interesting to see what week 3 brings us.
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - : Tampa avoided losing in week 2 the same way he did in week 1, by the skin of his teeth, winning by less than a point with a final of 147.76-147.47 over the Cowboys. The offense had an alright day putting up 58 points on the back of 19 from Zeke and 15 from Noah Fant. Brady with 8, Jeudy with 8, and Gore with 6 round out the offense’s day. It was the defense that put in the most work to push this Bucs team to the win with a 76 point total. With 16.95 from Justin Simmons, 15 from Foye Oluokun, and 11 a piece from Eric Wilson and Landon Collins those 4 were the biggest reasons for the strong week from the defense. The Bucs will continue to run the gauntlet with their schedule as week 3 brings them the Bengals for a huge top 10 battle. Will week 3 bring another ridiculously close finish, the Bucs first loss, or a big win by the Bucs to get them in a groove?
Record: (2-0)
2. Kansas City Chiefs - : KC is making their claim to be the early season title favorite. After a huge win and 177 points, they backed it up in week 2 with a 21 point win over the defending champions, Washington. An 85 point day from the offense was a huge reason for the win thanks to 24.8 from CMC, 19.9 from Mike Evans, 17.56 from Lamar, and 12 and 11 from Jacobs and Henry. The win doesn’t come without its own bit of bad news as CMC will now miss a few weeks. With Nick Bosa going down for the season and Aaron Donald only scoring 1 point the defense had a mild day putting up 54 points, the biggest concern is finding a replacement for Bosa. A 12, 11, and 10 from Kenny Moore, Kenneth Murray, and Jordan Poyer led the way for the defense. The biggest concern for the Chiefs in week 3 will be finding points from guys to soften the blow of losing CMC and Bosa, but a matchup against the Saints who upset the Giants last week will not give them any breaks in trying to do so.
Record: (2-0)
3. Green Bay Packers +1 : The Packers picked up a 15 point win over the Titans thanks to everyone on their offense scoring 10+ points, Rodgers with 18 and DJ Moore with led the way for the offense. Keenan Allen added 14, Uzomah added 12, but unfortunately tore his achilles, so he is done for the year, and Kenyan Drake chipped in 10 for a well rounded performance from the offense. The defense wasn’t as polished as the offense was with only 47 points and Devin White was the only guy on the unit to have a noteworthy day with a 16 point game. Josh Bynes added 8 to the total to make the LB duo account for half the defensive total. The Packers will face off with fellow 2-0 team, the Pats. The Pats out pointed them last week, so the defense for the Packers will need to step up so that they can help the offense and give the team a win to move to 3-0 on the season, otherwise they will be looking at their first loss of the season.
Record: (2-0)
4. San Francisco 49ers +1 : The 49ers picked up the win in week 2 by 1.2 points over the Seahawks. A huge 27 point game from Leonard Fournette led the offense to a 64 point day. Wentz and Amari Cooper combined for 25 points to provide help, but Julio and Hockenson only combining for 11 points is what appears to be the biggest reason for such a close result in the matchup. The defense put up 63 to almost match the offense on the week. Lavonte David led the way with 15 points and Jamal Adams and Fred Warner each scored 12 points to be the big contributors for the unit. After the close call in week 2, the 49ers get the Cardinals in week 3 and with the Cardinals not having Jimmy G or a QB to replace him with for the week, the 49ers look like they will move to 3-0 on the season and continue to be a threat for the season.
Record: (2-0)
5. Baltimore Ravens +1 : The Ravens have won their opening 2 matchups by 1.5 total points, winning this past week over the Raiders by 0.26 points, but a win is a win and the Ravens are sitting at 2-0 on the season. The offense only managed to put up 48.96 points thanks to a sluggish 5 points from both Allen Robinson and Dallas Goedert. Baker with 17 and Mixon and Marvin Jones with 10 a piece did their jobs for the offense though. The defense did not have a stellar week either putting up 47 points and Zach Cunnigham putting up 17.5 of that, leaving the other 7 guys to combine for 29.5 points. It was actually their K Justin Tucker that made the biggest difference in winning or losing this week. If the first 2 weeks are any indication for this matchup, the Ravens will be scrapping out another tight win as both teams have scored very similar point totals both weeks. Can the Ravens break the trend and get a big win this time or will the tight matchups bite them this time and cost them a win?
Record: (2-0)
6. Washington Football Team -3 : It appears 2020 is taking its toll on perennial contender Washington, at least through 2 weeks. Travis finds his team in a difficult spot sitting at 0-2 for possibly the first time ever? The offense had a very off color week, mostly due to Saquon getting hurt after only putting 2.8 points and Kaden Smith only putting up 0.9 points. Mahomes had a big game netting 29.48 points and Nuk had 17.8 to lead the offense. The defense managed 55 points with John Johnson scoring 10 points and all 4 of JJ Watt, Jayon Brown, Roquan Smith, and Devin Bush putting up 8 a piece. Can Travis get his guys to win week 3 against the Colts or will they fall into a very deep 0-3 hole and possibly end their hopes of even being able to defend their title?
Record: (0-2)
7. Minnesota Vikings +4 : Minnesota has started the season off very hot, scoring 148 then 151 in the first two weeks and blowing both opponents out in the process. Despite 0.8 from Irv Smith the offense combined for 80 points. Calvin Ridley had a monster 26 point day, Big Ben had 20, OBJ had 17, and Dalvin Cook added in 16 of his own. The defense put together 58 points on the back of 13 from Myles Jack, 10.9 from James Bradberry and 9 a piece from Jon Bostic and Demario Davis. Week 3 brings the toughest matchup the Vikings have had so far as they will get a top 10 matchup with the Bears. Will the Vikings continue their dominant ways and blow out the Bears, or drop their first week of the season?
Record: (2-0)
8. Cincinnati Bengals +4 : After a rough week 1, the Bengals bounced back in a huge way in week 2. They scored a massive 180 points on the week, winning by 44 points. The offense went OFF scoring 133 combined points, a number that would have beaten all but 9 teams in the league last week. All 5 guys scored 20+ points and here they are Josh Allen (36.48), Nick Chubb (25.8), Stefon Diggs (25.3), Mike Gesicki (23), and Kareem Hunt (23.1), this blew my mind seeing this. The defense was outscored by nearly 100 points though, putting up 34 points, that number was subdued thanks to two 0s from Milano and Reeder, so if the offense keeps that up and the defense starts scoring more this Bengals team will run away with the league without a second thought. Will the Bengals be more like their week 1 or week 2 version this week in a huge matchup with the Bucs? The answer to that will determine if the Bengals can knock off the PR #1 or fall to 1-2 on the season.
Record: (1-1)
9. New York Giants -3 : Week 1 the Giants knocked off the then #1 team, but in week 2 the Giants lost to the then #24 team in the league, going from a high to a low really quickly. Kyler with a 32 spot and Tyler Lockett with a 16 spot were the big contributors on offense accounting for two-thirds of the unit's output on the week. Derrick Henry, Jarvis, and OJ Howard struggling did not help the Giants cause. With Tremaine Edmunds not playing last week, the defense was not at full strength and only managed 48 points, but almost 7 points per player is decent and they won that side of the ball. Benardrick McKinney was the standout with 11 for the defense. The Giants will square off with a Browns team that despite losing last week, outscored them, so the Giants have some work to do this week to avoid getting knocked off for a second week in a row, and get back on track.
Record: (1-1)
10. Chicago Bears +3 : The Bears were able to shake off the week 1 loss with a 30 point win over the Browns in week 2. The offense put up 103 points and missed all 5 guys scoring 10+ by 3 points with David Johnson scoring 7 on the week. Russell Wilson continues to make a case for his first MVP vote this season with a 35 point game. Tyler Higbee had a mammoth 3 TD game and 25 points, McLaurin looked back to his 2019 self with a 22 spot and Russell Gage chipped in 13 points. Thanks to a 0 by Davis-Gaither, the defense was only able to put up 44 combined points. Jordan Hicks led the way with 10.25 points and had John Simon and Bobby Wagner back him up with 8 a piece. The Bears early schedule continues to be brutal as they face off with the Vikings in a big division game and top 10 battle. How will the Bears handle the matchup, can they get some redemption from their other big battle with the Chiefs and knock off this top 10 team or lose again and drop to 1-2?
Record: (1-1)
11. Tennessee Titans -2 : The Titans have had an up and down start to the season so far, winning in week 1, but put up more points in week 2 and lost. In week 2 they lost to the Packers by a final of 123.38-108.56. The offense did the hard work for the team putting up 61.68 of the total points. Julian Edelman with 21.9 and Travis Kelce with 19.5 were the high points for the offense with Nyheim Hines (2.5) and Emmanuel Sanders (3.3) being very much the disappointments on offense. As a whole the defense only managed 43.88 points. Harold Landry with 9 was the high point mark for the defense, but 2 guys, Leonard Floyd and Brandon Jones, scored 1 point a piece which did not help the cause. The other 5 defenders scored 5.5 to 7.63 points. With a matchup against the Ravens, the Titans barely miss out on a top 10 battle with them, sitting at #11 this week. If the pattern for both teams holds this week it will be a matchup that is decided by less than 2-3 points and will have both managers sweating it until the last minute on Monday. Can the Titans hand the Ravens their first loss, or will they fall to 1-2?
Record: (1-1)
12. Pittsburgh Steelers -2 : The Steelers have not had a hot start to the season as they sit on an 0-2 mark. Having to sit there and watch the Bengals torch them for 180 on the week was probably not what they had envisioned for the week. That being said 136 and 82 from the offense is nothing to sneeze at though. DeSean Jackson missed out on getting all 5 offensive guys 10 points by 0.6 points. Waller had a monster 22 points, Carr put up 21, James Conner had 19, and Chark added 10 to get the offense to its total. Joe Schobert and Justin Reid both put up 10 points and accounted for nearly 50% of the 44 points put up by the defense. Week 3 likely won’t be as tough as week 2 was, but with a matchup against the Cowboys, the Steelers will still need to be at their best to pick up their first win of the season.
Record: (0-2)
13. New England Patriots +3 : The Pats have opened up the season nicely going 2-0 and blowing the Rams out by 30 points last week. The offense scored an impressive 95 points and was led by 34 from Cam Newton. David Montgomery and Tyreek Hill chipped in with 21 a piece. Evan Engram and Shenault added in 9 and 8 respectively. Thanks to the work by the offense, the defense did not have to do a whole lot and with 40 points that was the case. DeForest Buckner was the leader of the unit with 10.75 on the week, but 3 guys with 4 points a piece and 1 guy with 0 will need to be fixed moving forward. It will be a battle between 2-0 teams this week for the Pats as they face off with the Packers. Can the Pats continue the momentum and move to 3-0 or lose the big matchup and move to 2-1?
Record: (2-0)
14. Los Angeles Rams -6 : The Rams moved to 0-2 on the season after losing by nearly 30 points to the Pats in week 2. The offense was only able to put up 53 points and it was mostly due to 1.6 and 6.1 from Nick Boyle and Todd Gurley. Only getting 14.7 from Watson was also not a great week. The defense also did not have a stellar week as they were only able to pull together 50 points. Marlon Humphrey with 11.25, Anthony Hitchens with 9, and Grady Jarrett with 8.13 were the bright spots for the defense, but the other guys will need to step up. Week 3 might be the week they start to get things turned around as they will face off with the Eagles, but the Eagles won last week, so we will see how things play out and if the Rams can finally pick up their first win of the season or lose for the third straight week.
Record: (0-2)
15. Seattle Seahawks -1 : The Seahawks are probably the most unlucky team so far in the season, not factoring in injuries, as they have lost both matchups by a combined 1.41 points. The offense did their part by scoring 88.88 points and winning that battle thanks to 33.9 from Alvin Kamara, 23.98 from Goff, 19.7 from Mostert, and 10.3 from Woods. Had Herndon not only had 1 point the Seahawks would be 1-1 on the season. The defense only managing 33.5 points is also a big reason the Seahawks had to settle for defeat again. AJ Johnson and Damontee Kazee led the way with 8 a piece, but Hargrave having a 0 was also disappointing for the team. With a matchup against the Lions who have beaten the Bengals, the Seahawks will not have an easy week in week 3, but it is a good chance for them to capture that first win.
Record: (0-2)
16. Indianapolis Colts -1 : The Colts ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Vikings in week 2, losing by 49 points and only putting up 102 themselves. It was a very down performance from the offense with Akers scoring 1.3, Thielen scoring 4.6, and Hooper scoring 3.2, so despite Stafford scoring 16 and John Brown scoring 18 the offense only managed 43 points. The defense did a bit better with Eric Kendricks and Christian Kirksey both dropping 12 points, but the unit was still only able to get 52 total. Things do not look great for them to get their first win in week 3. Their opponent is the defending champs, Washington, can the Colts pull a huge upset and set Washington back to 0-3, or fall to 0-3 themselves?
Record: (0-2)
17. New Orleans Saints +7 : Week 2 was a good one for the Saints, not only did they pick up a win, but the win was over a top 10 team in the Rankings and one that was just coming off of a big win over Washington in week 1. The offense put in a shift scoring a combined 82 points thanks to 23 from Minshew, 15 from Melvin Gordon, 19 from DK Metcalf, and the first of many strong games from Jonathan Taylor who had 18. Despite a spot left open and a 0 from Whitney Mercilus the defense did enough and put up 42 points, mostly from Donte Jackson and Nicholas Morrow who combined for 23 points and 8.5 from Myles Garrett at the DL spot. A big win for them came at the right time as week 3 will be an even tougher opponent in the form of #2 Kansas City. Can the Saints take advantage of the Chiefs missing 2 big pieces of their team and knock off the #2 team and get two huge wins in a row, or will they not have enough fire power and drop to 1-2?
Record: (1-1)
18. Dallas Cowboys -1 : The Cowboys narrowly missed knocking off the top team in the league in week 2, losing to the Bucs by a final of 147.76-147.47 and a margin of 0.29 points. The Cowboys will sorely disappointed with the loss because had Kirk Cousins even just had a 0 point day, they would be looking at a win over the #1 team and being part in knocking off the #1 team in back to back weeks to open the DFL season. A mammoth 45 point showing from Aaron Jones was a great thing to see, but also hard to see happen in a losing effort. The other members of the offense combined for 23 points. For the most part the defense showed up and did their work, with 4 of them scoring 10+ points and 3 of the other 4 scoring 5 or 6, but they lost that side of the ball by 14 points. Fresh off the gut wrenching loss, can the Cowboys rebound this week and hand the Steelers their 3 straight loss to open the season or stumble again and drop to 1-2?
Record: (1-1)
19. Arizona Cardinals +1 : After not topping 100 points in week 1, the Cardinals had a solid week two bumping up to 117 points and winning by 27 over the Lions. With the offense putting up 74 points combined the defense didn’t have to do a whole lot in week 2. Jonnu led the way with 22, almost out scoring the opposing offense by himself. Chris Carson added in 18, Jimmy G chipped in 13 before getting hurt, and Kupp and Chris Thompson both had 10 a piece. Damien Wilson and Kyle Van Noy led the way for the defense scoring 20 of the units 42 points, Akiem Hicks added 5 and the rest of the guys scored between 2 and 4 points. Had their K played the win would have likely been even bigger. With Jimmy G out for the week and no replacement signed for the Cardinals the week looks destined to be a loss, especially when they face off with a strong 49ers team. Can they overcome no QB and pull an upset though? Time will tell.
Record: (1-1)
20. Philadelphia Eagles +3 : The Eagles picked up their first win in week 2 thanks to a solid day from both sides of the ball and putting up 119 points total, knocking off the Falcons. Dak accounted for 39.8 of the offenses 55 points on the week with none of the other 4 guys on offense scoring more than 6 points and 3 of those guys came out of the week with an injury which likely played a role. The defense had a good day putting up 64 points and winning that side of the ball easily. The performance was mostly thanks to 20 from Micah Kiser, 15 from Devin McCourty, and 10.5 from Malcolm Jenkins, but like the offense, the defense did not come out of the week unscathed with Melvin Ingram and Fletcher Cox picking up injuries. The Eagles dealing with what seems like a lot of injuries will now have to face off with the Rams in week 3, can they overcome the injuries and win 2 in a row or hand the Rams their first win of the season?
Record: (1-1)
21. Atlanta Falcons -3 : The Falcons dropped their 2nd straight matchup with a loss to the Eagles, losing by 11 points and only managing 108 points on the week. The offense did win that side of the ball with 58 points on the back of 26.76 from Tannehill and 14.7 from Mark Ingram, but the offense might have lost Adams for a few weeks, this coming week for sure. The defense was the side of the ball that cost the Falcons the week only managing 43 points with a 0 from Trey Flowers and 1 from Derrick Brown. Micah Hyde led the way with 10 points and the other 5 had 5 to 7.5 points on the week. The Falcons catch a break in the schedule it seems as they will face off with fellow 0-2 team the Jets, who are #24 in the rankings. Can they capitalize on the matchup and pick up their first win, or will Adams not playing and their struggles force them to settle for another loss?
Record: (0-2)
22. Detroit Lions -3 : A week after upsetting the Bengals, the Lions looked a totally different team as they only managed 90 points, losing to the Cardinals by 27 points. The poor showing was in large part due to the offense only putting up 28 points. CeeDee Lamb led the way with half of the 28 points, and Greg Olsen along with Sammy Watkins were the biggest disappointments only managing 1.6 points between them. The defense did their part winning that side by putting up 50 points with the LB duo of Blake Martinez and Jaylen Smith combining for 24.75 points and the DB duo of Keanu Neal and Eddie Jackson adding 15.13 between them. The question for week 3 for the Lions will be, which team shows up for them? The team from week 1 that knocked off the Bengals, or the team that showed up in week 2 that would have lost to everyone. If the week 1 team shows up, they will have a good shot at knocking the Seahawks off this week.
Record: (1-1)
23. Cleveland Browns -2 : The Browns had a good points week in week 2, but still ended up taking a 30 point loss to the Bears. The loss appears to have come mostly from the offensive side of the ball, they had a solid enough day, but still lost that side by 30 points which was the margin of the loss. Matt Ryan had a big 30 points, Miles Sanders looked ready to go with 19 in his 2020 debut, and CEH came back down to earth with 10 on the week. The leaders on defense were the DBs of Jessie Bates and Andrew Sendejo both with 10 points. On the flip side the LBs of Anthony Barr and Raekwon McMillan both had 0 points, with Barr going down for the season and the defense putting up 39 total points. The Browns get the Giants in week 3 which will be a tough matchup, given that the Giants knocked off Washington this season, but can the Browns step up and score more this week than they did last week and hand the Giants their 2nd loss of the season?
Record: (1-1)
24. Las Vegas Raiders -2 : The Raiders will be very disappointed to be sitting on 0-2 at this point. They missed out on upsetting the Ravens by 0.26 points. The offense didn’t have a stellar day, but had a good enough day to keep them in the game with 40 points, and Darnold being the high point man with 11. The defense definitely did their part with 61.94 points thanks to 16.5 from Antonio Winfield Jr, 15.5 from Quinnen Williams, and 12 from Nik Needham. The rookie Isaiah Simmons is still looking for his footing in the league as he only managed 1 point on the week. The biggest concern for the Raiders in week 3 will be the fact that they have now lost Courtland Sutton for the season. With a matchup against a fellow 0-2 team in the Falcons, can the Raiders get that first win, or will not having their star WR hurt them again this week?
Record: (0-2)
With 16.95 from Justin Simmons, 15 from Foye Oluokun, and 11 a piece from Eric Wilson and Landon Collins those 4 were the biggest reasons for the strong week from the defense.
