49ers Get
DB Travarious Moore - $.5 DL Bilal Nichols - $.5 2021 3rd Rookie (WAS)
Bears Get
Open Roster Spaces for two waiver claims.
I accept.
This looks funny so allow me to explain. I desperately want to make two claims in waivers tonight but I have no open roster spots and anyone I drop doesn’t take effect until next week. So I am paying 49ers a 2021 3rd Rookie Pick to have him take two players off my hands allowing me to make two claims. Hopefully I win one or both and then my side of the trade looks better haha.

The two players are awful - they are a negative and will surely be dropped by SF. I took a flier on Moore after a good week 1 and he has 6 points since going 4 points, 2 points, and ZERO points last week. Nichols has 2 total points in 2 games played and hasn’t played in 3 weeks. They cost me $1 between them. If I could drop them outright and make claims tonight I would. The rules don’t allow it. The only way to drop this dead weight is to pay someone else to take them tonight. So I’m paying a 3rd Rookie to be able to participate in waivers this week and improve my team. If anyone thinks Moore and Nichols actually help SF at all they might want to reconsider haha.

In the 11 years of the DFL I have never seen this - why didn’t you drop these players weeks ago?

If I waited until week 5 then I get 50% of their salary back as opposed to 25% before this week. I meant to do it on Monday - I even dropped TJ McDonald this morning thinking it was before the deadline for drops before realizing it wasn’t Monday it was Tuesday. — My team has been playing well and I haven’t needed them so I thought why not get the most cap back by waiting. Then I messed up the day. I’ve obviously given this a lot of thought... a former main staff member who has shown his commitment to the league.. and am currently 5-0 looking to make moves to enhance my chances to win now. Since the rules say I can only open roster space after Monday for claims by trade I had to find anyone to take my trash. So my cost for forgetting the drop day is a 3rd rookie.

This is an NBA style trade... I don't think you can trade cap space

He’s not trading me cap space. He is only taking two players I need to get rid of and being paid a 3rd Round Pick. There is nothing in the rules against it. Trading cap space would look something like
49ers Get
Moore Nichols 3rd Rookie Pick
Bears Get
$5 of $49ers remaining cap space
Not only is that forbidden in the rules but... I don’t need the cap space. I have $9.5 in space already. I just need the roster space.

Also - Trade Review is here to protect teams from making bad trades that hurt their teams. Who are we protecting here? The team getting a 3rd Round Rookie Pick for having open roster space? Or the 5-0 team looking to replace two players who have totaled 17 points between them in 5 weeks... which is 8.5 points per player in 5 weeks and 1.7 points per week for those players? I don’t think either team needs to be protected in this case.
If we went to the last 3 weeks it would be 6 points total for my trash players or 1 point per player per week. The two players I would win win claims on? 28 points in the last 3 weeks or just under 5 points per week per player (and that number is low only because one guy only played one of those weeks and took zeros for the other two weeks).

I have edited the initial thread - my apologies for saying $1 cap space as something I received. Thank you GB for pointing out my error. I only meant it frees $1 up not that I was receiving cap from SF.

I think there should be a rule for this - feels like it could be abused. If these are worthless players and SF is dropping them he will be penalized for the drops

There have been instances in past where teams have traded players for picks just to have other team drop players. Only difference is Chicago is paying a 3rd to SF to cover the cap hits whereas in the previous instances teams were losing a pic and absorbing cap hits.
While i understand the trade in principle im going to err on the side of caution and veto cause i dont want it to set a bad precedent going forward.

While this trade seems not to have any major players involved and could be considered of being of no consequence But have to agree with the Browns of setting a bad precedent going forward
I am also a veto
A rule needs to be considered to cover this situation
